Image of Ina Poonbato episcopally crowned

IBA, Zambales, Jan. 31, 2013—A diocese in Central Luzon area granted the request of the people to crown the image of Ina Poonbato at the Ina Poonbato Shrine in Botolan, Zambales last January 23.

The Episcopal coronation was held in recognition of the special reverence and devotion the Christian faithful of Zambales and other devotees have shown to the Mother of God through her title “Ina Poonbato”.

Iba Bishop Florentino Lavarias celebrated the Episcopal coronation.

Themed “Inang Maria Kaisa sa pananampalataya, buhay-Kristiyano at pagsamba,” the coronation was also held in celebration of the Year of Faith.

Fr. Marciano Sandoval Jr., parish priest of Sta. Monica Parish said the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary through her title Ina Poonbato has grown not only in the province but worldwide.

“It is for this very reason that the parish promoted an awareness of it to the people of Zambales that we have our own Marian devotion through Ina Poonbato by doing pilgrimages and visitation to the different parishes in the diocese,” Sandoval added.

Marian Youth Pilgrimage

One of the activities held for the veneration of Ina Poonbato was the Marian Youth Pilgrimage Walk last January 21.

Almost 200 young people from the Sta. Monica Parochial Institute and youth ministers of St. Augustine Parish and the Immaculate Concepcion-Palauig joined the walk.
The last account of a Marian Youth Pilgrimage held in the diocese was in 1979. (Jandel Posion with reports from Rolly Abelon)
