Pro-life pilgrimage set before Palm Sunday

Filed under: Headlines |
MANILA, April 11, 2014 — A pro-life organization is calling all citizens who value human life to join a walking pilgrimage from Caloocan City to Paranaque City to “atone for the sins against the sanctity of life and traditional marriage” a day before Palm Sunday.

Dubbed the “Annual Filipinos for Life Lenten Pilgrimage”, the pilgrimage will be held on April 12, Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Grace in St. Eugene de Mazenod Avenue (formerly 11th Avenue), Grace Park, Caloocan City and will pass by several Catholic churches along the LRT Line 1 route, ending in the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Baclaran.

Filipino family values threatened

“The main intention of this pilgrimage is to atone for our selfish actions and unwise decisions in voting for anti-life leaders that voted for the passing of RH,” said Filipinos for Life (F4L) president Anthony James Perez.

Now on its third year, the pilgrimage will adopt a theme for the first time. According to Perez, pro-lifers, who will walk some 20 kilometers from Monumento to Baclaran, will pray specifically that the Philippines will hold fast to its “time-honored traditional family values, which are constantly being attacked in media and Congress.”

He also noted the strong Marian undertones of both the pilgrimage and the pro-life advocacy.
“We believe that it is not a coincidence that these two important Marian shrines will be the starting and ending points of our pilgrimage…The Philippines is consecrated to our Mother and all our efforts we give to her so that she may offer it to her Son and that we may be protected by these anti-life forces,” Perez said.

He said, people joining the pilgrimage will be encouraged to “offer this war against the forces of evil under the protection of our Mother Mary.”
Manila churches
The annual pilgrimage will start with a prayer at the patio of the Our Lady of Grace and would proceed to the following churches:
  • St. Pancratius Parish Church, La Loma;
  • San Roque Parish Church, Blumentritt;
  • Espiritu Santo Parish Church, Tayuman;
  • Quiapo Church (Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene);
  • Sta. Cruz Church (Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Church);
  • Binondo Church (Minor Basilica of St. Lorenzo Ruiz);
  • Ermita Church (Nuestra Señora de Guia Parish Church);
  • Malate Church (Nuestra Señora del Remedios Parish Church);
  • Baclaran Church (National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help)
There will be a short stop-over at Binondo for a quick lunch.
Interested individuals may join the pilgrimage by arriving at the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace before 8 a.m. for the start of the walk.  For more details, you may contact Mr. Anthony James Perez through his email address at ajuperez@gmail.com. (Rommel Lopez/CBCP News)
