APOSTLE TO THE GENTILES

13: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the holy Spirit.

14: ⁵ I myself am convinced about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, ⁶ filled with all knowledge, and able to admonish one another.
15: But I have written to you rather boldly in some respects to remind you, because of the grace given me by God
16: to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in performing the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering up of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the holy Spirit.
17: In Christ Jesus, then, I have reason to boast in what pertains to God.
18: For I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to lead the Gentiles to obedience by word and deed,
19: by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit (of God), so that from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum ⁷ I have finished preaching the gospel of Christ.
20: Thus I aspire ⁸ to proclaim the gospel not where Christ has already been named, so that I do not build on another's foundation,
21: but as it is written: "Those who have never been told of him shall see, and those who have never heard of him shall understand." ⁹

Chapter 2

CHOSEN TO BE SAVED

13: But we ought to give thanks to God for you always, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits ⁷ for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in truth.
14: To this end he has (also) called you through our gospel to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15: Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours. ⁸
16: May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace,
17: encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.

Chapter 15 THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST GOSPEL TEACHINGS

1: ¹ ² Now I am reminding you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you indeed received and in which you also stand.
2: Through it you are also being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
3: ³ For I handed on to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures;
4: that he was buried; that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures;
5: that he appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.
6: After that, he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
7: After that he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
8: Last of all, as to one born abnormally, he appeared to me.
9: For I am the least ⁴ of the apostles, not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
10: But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been ineffective. Indeed, I have toiled harder than all of them; not I, however, but the grace of God (that is) with me.

Chapter 2 THE TEACHINGS OF ST. PAUL

1: When I came to you, brothers, proclaiming the mystery of God, ¹ I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom.
2: For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
3: I came to you in weakness ² and fear and much trembling,
4: and my message and my proclamation were not with persuasive (words of) wisdom, ³ but with a demonstration of spirit and power,
5: so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.

Chapter 9 GOD'S INDESCRIBABLE GIFT'S HELP TO FELLOW CHRISTIANS

1: ¹ Now about the service to the holy ones, it is superfluous for me to write to you,
2: for I know your eagerness, about which I boast of you to the Macedonians, that Achaia ² has been ready since last year; and your zeal has stirred up most of them.
3: Nonetheless, I sent the brothers ³ so that our boast about you might not prove empty in this case, so that you might be ready, as I said,
4: for fear that if any Macedonians come with me and find you not ready we might be put to shame (to say nothing of you) in this conviction.
5: So I thought it necessary to encourage the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance for your promised gift, so that in this way it might be ready as a bountiful gift and not as an exaction.
6: Consider this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
7: Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8: ⁴ Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work.
9: As it is written: "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever."
10: The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness.

Chapter 25

31: ¹⁴ "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne,
32: and all the nations ¹⁵ will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33: He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34: Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35: For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,
36: naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'
37: Then the righteous ¹⁶ will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?
38: When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?
39: When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'
40: And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'
41: ¹⁷ Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42: For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
43: a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'
44: ¹⁸ Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?'
45: He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.'
46: And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

33: But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight.

35: The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction, 'Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.'
