GOD JUST JUDGEMENT / UNIVERSAL BONDAGE TO SIN
ROMA 2:1-11   /  3:9-20

Romans
Chapter 2

1
1 Therefore, you are without excuse, every one of you who passes judgment. 2 For by the standard by which you judge another you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the very same things.
2
We know that the judgment of God on those who do such things is true.
3
Do you suppose, then, you who judge those who engage in such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?
4
Or do you hold his priceless kindness, forbearance, and patience in low esteem, unaware that the kindness of God would lead you to repentance?
5
By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God,
6
who will repay everyone according to his works: 3
7
eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works,
8
but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness.
9
Yes, affliction and distress will come upon every human being who does evil, Jew first and then Greek.
10
But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, Jew first and then Greek.
11
4 There is no partiality with God.

UNIVERSAL BONDAGE TO SIN
ROMA  3:9-20

Romans
Chapter 3

.
9
3 Well, then, are we better off? Not entirely, for we have already brought the charge against Jews and Greeks alike that they are all under the domination of sin,
10
as it is written: "There is no one just, not one,
11
there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.
12
All have gone astray; all alike are worthless; there is not one who does good, (there is not) even one.
13
Their throats are open graves; they deceive with their tongues; the venom of asps is on their lips;
14
their mouths are full of bitter cursing.
15
Their feet are quick to shed blood;
16
ruin and misery are in their ways,
17
and the way of peace they know not.
18
There is no fear of God before their eyes."
19
Now we know that what the law 4 says is addressed to those under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world stand accountable to God,
20
since no human being will be justified in his sight 5 by observing the law; for through the law comes consciousness of sin.

COMMUNAL LIFE
ACTS 2:42-47

Acts
Chapter 2
42
8 They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.
43
Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
44
All who believed were together and had all things in common;
45
they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one's need.
46
Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart,
47
praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

PETERS SPEECH
Acts 3:11-26

Acts
Chapter 3
11
As he clung to Peter and John, all the people hurried in amazement toward them in the portico called "Solomon's Portico."
12
When Peter saw this, he addressed the people, "You Israelites, why are you amazed at this, and why do you look so intently at us as if we had made him walk by our own power or piety?
13
The God of Abraham, (the God) of Isaac, and (the God) of Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified 4 his servant Jesus whom you handed over and denied in Pilate's presence, when he had decided to release him.
14
You denied the Holy and Righteous One 5 and asked that a murderer be released to you.
15
6 The author of life you put to death, but God raised him from the dead; of this we are witnesses.
16
And by faith in his name, this man, whom you see and know, his name has made strong, and the faith that comes through it has given him this perfect health, in the presence of all of you.
17
Now I know, brothers, that you acted out of ignorance, 7 just as your leaders did;
18
but God has thus brought to fulfillment what he had announced beforehand through the mouth of all the prophets, 8 that his Messiah would suffer.
19
Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away,
20
and that the Lord may grant you times of refreshment and send you the Messiah already appointed for you, Jesus, 9
21
whom heaven must receive until the times of universal restoration 10 of which God spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old.
22
For Moses said: 11 'A prophet like me will the Lord, your God, raise up for you from among your own kinsmen; to him you shall listen in all that he may say to you.
23
Everyone who does not listen to that prophet will be cut off from the people.'
24
Moreover, all the prophets who spoke, from Samuel and those afterwards, also announced these days.
25
You are the children of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he said to Abraham, 'In your offspring all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'
26
For you first, God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways."

BEFORE SANHEDRIN
ACTS 4:5-22

Acts
Chapter 4

5
On the next day, their leaders, elders, and scribes were assembled in Jerusalem,
6
with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly class.
7
They brought them into their presence and questioned them, "By what power or by what name have you done this?"
8
Then Peter, filled with the holy Spirit, answered them, "Leaders of the people and elders:
9
If we are being examined today about a good deed done to a cripple, namely, by what means he was saved,
10
then all of you and all the people of Israel should know that it was in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarean whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead; in his name this man stands before you healed.
11
He is 'the stone rejected by you, 2 the builders, which has become the cornerstone.'
12
3 There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved."
13
Observing the boldness of Peter and John and perceiving them to be uneducated, ordinary men, they were amazed, and they recognized them as the companions of Jesus.
14
Then when they saw the man who had been cured standing there with them, they could say nothing in reply.
15
So they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, and conferred with one another, saying,
16
"What are we to do with these men? Everyone living in Jerusalem knows that a remarkable sign was done through them, and we cannot deny it.
17
But so that it may not be spread any further among the people, let us give them a stern warning never again to speak to anyone in this name."
18
So they called them back and ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
19
Peter and John, however, said to them in reply, "Whether it is right in the sight of God for us to obey you rather than God, you be the judges.
20
It is impossible for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard."
21
After threatening them further, they released them, finding no way to punish them, on account of the people who were all praising God for what had happened.
22
For the man on whom this sign of healing had been done was over forty years old.

THE TWO FOUNDATIONS
LUKE 6:46-49

Luke
Chapter 6

46
"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' but not do what I command?
47
15 I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, listens to my words, and acts on them.
48
That one is like a person building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when the flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it because it had been well built.
49
But the one who listens and does not act is like a person who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst against it, it collapsed at once and was completely destroyed."

JUDGING OTHER
LUKE 37-38

37
13 "Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven.
38
Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you."

SERMON ON THE PLAIN
LUKE 20-26

20
10 11 And raising his eyes toward his disciples he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.
21
Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh.
22
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.
23
Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.
24
But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
25
But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep.
26
Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way.

THE NARROW DOOR; SALVATION AND REJECTIONS
LUKE 13:22-30

Luke
Chapter 13

22
9 He passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem.
23
Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them,
24
"Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.
25
After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, 'Lord, open the door for us.' He will say to you in reply, 'I do not know where you are from.'
26
And you will say, 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.'
27
Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where (you) are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!'
28
And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out.
29
And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God.
30
For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last."
