RECAPITULATIONS ( NEW TESTAMENT )
JOHN 12:44-50
KNOWING JESUS  / SAYING ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
LUKE 12:8-12
THE GOOD SHEPHERD
JOHN 10:1-18
THE GENTLE MASTERY OF CHRIST
MATTHEW 11:25-30

NEW TESTAMENTS
John

Chapter 12

44
Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me,
45
and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.
46
I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.
47
And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them, I do not condemn him, for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world.
48
Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words has something to judge him: the word that I spoke, it will condemn him on the last day,
49
because I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak.
50
And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So what I say, I say as the Father told me."

Luke
Chapter 12

8
I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others the Son of Man will acknowledge before the angels of God.
9
But whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God.
10
5 "Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11
When they take you before synagogues and before rulers and authorities, do not worry about how or what your defense will be or about what you are to say.
12
For the holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say."

John
Chapter 10
1
1 2 "Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever does not enter a sheepfold through the gate but climbs over elsewhere is a thief and a robber.
2
But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.
3
The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
4
3 When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice.
5
But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers."
6
Although Jesus used this figure of speech, 4 they did not realize what he was trying to tell them.
7
5 So Jesus said again, "Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the gate for the sheep.
8
6 All who came [before me] are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
9
I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.
10
A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.
11
I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
12
A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them.
13
This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.
14
I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me,
15
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
16
I have other sheep 7 that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.
17
This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.
18
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again. 8 This command I have received from my Father."

Matthew
Chapter 10

34
"Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword.
35
For I have come to set a man 'against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36
and one's enemies will be those of his household.'
37
"Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
38
and whoever does not take up his cross 15 and follow after me is not worthy of me.
39
16 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Matthew
Chapter 11

25
At that time Jesus said in reply, 14 "I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.
26
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
27
All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.
28
15 "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, 16 and I will give you rest.
29
17 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves.
30
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

ENEMY OF THE GATES ( OLD TESTAMENT )
JEREMIAH 6:16

OLD TESTAMENTS
Jeremiah

Chapter 6

16
3 Thus says the LORD: Stand beside the earliest roads, ask the pathways of old Which is the way to good, and walk it; thus you will find rest for your souls. But they said, "We will not walk it."

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE BIRTH OF JOHN
RECAPITULATION   / CONCERNING RULERS
JOHN 1:57-66  JOHN 12:44-50  SIRACH 10:1-6

Luke
Chapter 1

57
17 When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child she gave birth to a son.
58
Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced with her.
59
18 When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they were going to call him Zechariah after his father,
60
but his mother said in reply, "No. He will be called John."
61
But they answered her, "There is no one among your relatives who has this name."
62
So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called.
63
He asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name," and all were amazed.
64
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God.
65
Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all these matters were discussed throughout the hill country of Judea.
66
All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, "What, then, will this child be?" For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.

John
Chapter 12

Sirach
Chapter 10

1
A wise magistrate lends stability to his people, and the government of a prudent man is well ordered.
2
As the people's judge, so are his ministers; as the head of a city, its inhabitants.
3
A wanton king destroys his people, but a city grows through the wisdom of its princes.
4
Sovereignty over the earth is in the hand of God, who raises up on it the man of the hour;
5
Sovereignty over every man is in the hand of God, who imparts his majesty to the ruler.
6
1 No matter the wrong, do no violence to your neighbor, and do not walk the path of arrogance.

War in Mali: Islamists Recruiting Child Soldiers, Implementing Sharia Law

French troops and warplanes are up against an enemy that is “determined, well-equipped and well-trained,” French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Tuesday. Nearly 2,000 French troops have been committed to the task so far, but Mali’s Islamic extremists are heavily entrenched in the north where Le Drian says they are hitting “significant concentrations of fighters and vehicles.”
On Monday, the United States offered limited logistical support in France’s campaign against Islamic extremists in Mali. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said: “We have a responsibility to make sure that al-Qaida does not establish a base for operations in North Africa and Mali. We’ve been very concerned about AQIM and their efforts to establish a very strong base in that area.”

Insurgent leaders in Mali, outraged at the intervention, are warning of terrorist retaliation. Oumar Ould Hamaha, an extremist leader, told Europe 1 Radio that France “has fallen into a trap which is much more dangerous than Iraq, Afghanistan or Somalia,” warning that the intervention has “opened the gates of hell for all the French.”

Stopping Islamic extremists from overtaking Mali overnight has been more of a challenge than anyone bargained for – largely because of the steady stream of weapons that have flowed across the desert in recent months and landed in the hands of extremists.
Moammar Gadhafi’s November 2011 death signaled the fall of Libya’s regime – and unfortunately, easy access to his massive unsecured storehouses of weaponry.

Unfortunately, in the wake of Gadhafi’s death nobody seemed to take notice (and if they noticed, they failed to act) when bands of rebels began raiding the warehouses, loading up as many weapons as they could carry, and trekking across the vast desert territories of Algeria and Niger to Africa’s new hotbed of Islamic extremism, Mali – where, unsurprisingly, the weapons ended up arming a regime of militants.

Porous borders, low security, and an endless desert of shifting sands over which camels, Jeeps, and people can trespass with not so much as a sign of their tracks have contributed to the seeming impossibility of halting the arms pipeline that formed so easily.
Today, Islamic extremists in Mali currently control the northern region of the country, an area roughly the size of France. As part of their extremist ideology, Islamists have banned music, drinking, smoking and watching sports on television. Floggings, public amputations, and stoning are becoming commonplace in the extremist-ruled north. In July a couple was stoned for having sex outside of marriage.

Christians comprise just 1 percent of Mali’s population – and today they face greater danger than ever before under extremist rule in the nation’s north. Open Doors USA, a Christian organization that works on behalf of believers persecuted for their faith, just released their annual World Watch List, a listing of the countries where Christians are most at risk for persecution. This year, Mali ranked number 7.

Paul Estabrooks of Open Doors USA says that Mali didn’t even make the list last year. According to Estabrooks, “But because of all the challenges there,” he says, “[Mali] has suddenly jumped to seventh place out of 50 countries. It is a significant factor.”
During the initial Islamist takeover in the north of Mali, Estabrooks says the extremists launched a campaign against non-Muslims. “The first thing they did was a kind of religious ethnic cleansing. They began to do house-to-house searches. They literally warned Christians that if they didn’t get out of this new country in the north part of Mali, they would kill them -- and they weren’t joking. Many Christians were killed; others were injured severely.”

Now fueled with hefty loads of cash gained by numerous ransoms throughout the Sahara and virtually unlimited weaponry thanks to Gadhafi’s untouched storehouses of machine guns, rockets and anti-aircraft systems, Mali’s Islamists have launched a southward push on a mission to turn the entire country into a stronghold of sharia law and a haven for extremists.

Salvatore Sagues of Amnesty International says that the militants are recruiting children and forcing them into combat. “We have already learned that some child soldiers were sent to the front line. Some of them have been wounded and killed,” he told Voice of America News.

“It is forbidden under international law if child soldiers are under 15 it is a war crime. And as you know, the International Criminal Court has opened [an] inquiry into Mali. So people who are using children below the age of 15 will have to account to the International Criminal Court,” he added.

Amnesty International has voiced concerns about the strict interpretation of Islam imposed on civilians in Mali’s north. “They imposed their own interpretation if Islam,” Sagues says of the militant regime.

“Flogging couples, for example, who had sexual relationships without being married. They stoned to death a couple, unmarried, who had a child. They amputated several people accused of theft without any trial. They destroyed cultural buildings,” he said
As sharia law continues to be implemented throughout the north, Estabrooks says Christians remain in serious danger. “It’s been a fairly quiet country, so [Christians] haven’t had a strong history of persecution,” he says. “So when it comes suddenly like it has in Mali, it’s a real challenge for believers because they haven’t really prepared for what’s going on. The fear factor is an extremely difficult thing for them to deal with.”

Archbishop rejects reconciliation with Palace over RH law

MANILA, Jan. 17, 2012— For Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles, there is no way that the he will ‘reconcile” the morality with immorality.

Reacting to Malacañang’s call for reconciliation after the dispute over the controversial Reproductive Health Law, Arguelles said there is no way that the Church can accept the measure.

“If they want reconciliation, then they should debunk the law. It should be removed,” Arguelles said.

The archbishop stressed that they have nothing personal against President Benigno Aquino III for approving the RH law. It is just that, he said, they have to impose what the Church teaches.

“We are not mad at him (President Benigno Aquino III). But if to reconcile means we would approve what they are doing, it cannot be,” Arguelles said.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma said that Aquino has been openly calling for reconciliation with the Catholic hierarchy.
He, however, admitted that no meeting has taken place yet between the Palace and the Church.

The prelate who has been very vocal against the RH law, which is now facing legal challenges before the Supreme Court, emphasized that reconciliation is not feasible for as long as the law is in effect.

Arguelles claimed that during debates in Congress, Malacañang and RH lobby groups used all methods possible including money, pressure and cheating to ensure the passage of the measure.

He also believed that the dirty tactics used by the pro-RH groups including smear campaign over social media networks before would be utilized again now that the law takes into effect Thursday.

“They resorted to tricks before and now they want us to accept (the RH Law), cannot be,” he added. “I know this is illegal, what they are doing is immoral.”

“We pity them because they fought what they think was right. We do not need reconciliation if it means we approve of what they are doing. This is against the teachings of the Lord,” he said.

Arguelles also said they do not hold a grudge against pro-RH groups who lobbied for the population control measure and the lawmakers who voted for it.

“We are not angry at them but it is as if we were knocked down, and now they want to make friends. After beating us up, now they want to befriend us,” he also said.

“For us, it does not matter that we were mauled but we still think that this would not be beneficial to the people, to the country. We do not regret that we were treated very badly, but we regret that if we would reconcile with the government, we would be part of their inequity,” he said. (CBCPNews)

Search for unity at the heart of our Christian faith

2013-01-16 Vatican Radio
(Vatican Radio) The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins on Friday, focusing on a theme taken from a verse of the prophet Micah "What does the Lord requires of us?" This annual initiative, which is marked by countries around the world at different times of the year, provides an opportunity for local churches to step up contacts, to share in worship and to promote joint initiatives between Christians of different denominations.

This year the Student Christian Movement of India has prepared daily reflections and prayers for the week, with a very practical focus on the need for justice and solidarity with the poorest of the poor in their country – the Dalits or outcasts, as that community is often called.

Swiss Cardinal Kurt Koch heads the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. Philippa Hitchen talked to him about this Week of Prayer and about recent signs of reconciliation between the Polish Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches…..

Listen:
"This week was prepared by groups in India, and in view of many injustices and problems to resolve there, it is a very big challenge. But for us, the biggest challenge is to find unity between churches and ecclesial communities, that’s our duty……

But many people today see the idea of Christian unity as an illusion?

Yes, that’s the mind of post modernism and relativism that many people don’t want unity, they want pluralism and relativism and tolerance is very important for people today. But for the bible and Christian tradition, unity – one faith – is very important. Christian faith without the search for unity is not Christian faith.
Where do you see the most important signs of hope?

I see many groups deepening the spiritual roots of ecumenism, communities of prayer praying that ‘all may be one so the world may believe” For the credibility of the Gospel it’s very important to find unity because the many divisions are a very great obstacle to the credibility of churches – that’s was evident in Edinburgh in 1910 and since then mission and ecumenism always go together. So today it’s important to deepen this relationship between ecumenism and new evangelisation.

Pope Benedict spoke recently of the reconciliation between Poland’s Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Patriarchate - how significant is that?

In the past there were many problems between Russia and Poland so to find reconciliation of a high level between Catholic Church in Poland and the Patriarchate in Moscow is a beautiful and important sign for ecumenism. To find reconciliation between enemies is a very important challenge for all peoples – the first step towards Eucharistic communion is reconciliation of the past."

OTHER HEALING'S / JESUS LEAVES CAPERNAUM
MARK 1:35-39

Mark
Chapter 1

29
On leaving the synagogue he entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
30
Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her.
31
He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them.
32
When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons.
33
The whole town was gathered at the door.
34
He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

35
Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.
36
Simon and those who were with him pursued him
37
and on finding him said, "Everyone is looking for you."
38
He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come."
39
So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee.
