Matthew
Chapter 10

34
"Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword.
35
For I have come to set a man 'against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36
and one's enemies will be those of his household.'
37
"Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
38
and whoever does not take up his cross 15 and follow after me is not worthy of me.
39
16 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Luke
Chapter 22

35
He said to them, "When I sent you forth without a money bag or a sack or sandals, were you in need of anything?" "No, nothing," they replied.
36
He said to them, 12 "But now one who has a money bag should take it, and likewise a sack, and one who does not have a sword should sell his cloak and buy one.
37
For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, namely, 'He was counted among the wicked'; and indeed what is written about me is coming to fulfillment."
38
Then they said, "Lord, look, there are two swords here." But he replied, "It is enough!" 13

47
While he was still speaking, a crowd approached and in front was one of the Twelve, a man named Judas. He went up to Jesus to kiss him.
48
Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
49
His disciples realized what was about to happen, and they asked, "Lord, shall we strike with a sword?"
50
And one of them struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear.
51
15 But Jesus said in reply, "Stop, no more of this!" Then he touched the servant's ear and healed him.
52
And Jesus said to the chief priests and temple guards and elders who had come for him, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?
53
Day after day I was with you in the temple area, and you did not seize me; but this is your hour, the time for the power of darkness."

Luke
Chapter 8
1
1 Afterward he journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve
2
and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
3
Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.

Luke
Chapter 17

20
6 Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he said in reply, "The coming of the kingdom of God cannot be observed,
21
7 and no one will announce, 'Look, here it is,' or, 'There it is.' For behold, the kingdom of God is among you."

Luke
Chapter 13

22
9 He passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem.
23
Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them,
24
"Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.
25
After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, 'Lord, open the door for us.' He will say to you in reply, 'I do not know where you are from.'
26
And you will say, 'We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.'
27
Then he will say to you, 'I do not know where (you) are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!'
28
And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out.
29
And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God.
30
For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last."

Hebrews
Chapter 11

23
By faith Moses was hidden by his parents for three months after his birth, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict.
24
8 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25
he chose to be ill-treated along with the people of God rather than enjoy the fleeting pleasure of sin.
26
He considered the reproach of the Anointed greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the recompense.
27
By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's fury, for he persevered as if seeing the one who is invisible.
28
By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.
29
By faith they crossed the Red Sea as if it were dry land, but when the Egyptians attempted it they were drowned.

THE WISDOM BOOKS AND PROPHETIC BOOKS

Ecclesiastes
Chapter 3

There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens.
2
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.
3
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to tear down, and a time to build.
4
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
5
A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather them; a time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
6
A time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away.
7
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to be silent, and a time to speak.
8
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Ecclesiastes
Chapter 4
Again I considered all the oppressions that take place under the sun: the tears of the victims with none to comfort them! From the hand of their oppressors comes violence, and there is none to comfort them!
2
And those now dead, I declared more fortunate in death than are the living to be still alive.
3
And better off than both is the yet unborn, who has not seen the wicked work that is done under the sun.
4
Then I saw that all toil and skillful work is the rivalry of one man for another. This also is vanity and a chase after wind.
5
1 "The fool folds his arms and consumes his own flesh"--
6
Better is one handful with tranquility than two with toil and a chase after wind!

Isaiah
Chapter 61

1
1 The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly, to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners,

Isaiah
Chapter 60

1 Rise up in splendor! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you.
2
See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; But upon you the LORD shines, and over you appears his glory.
3
Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance.
