Our Christian faith keeps us strong amid adversity–NASSA exec

MANILA, Dec. 25, 2013—The Filipinos’ strong spirit which is strongly rooted from the Christian faith is what helps us move on even when confronted with adversity in life, NASSA Executive Secretary, Fr. Edu Gariguez said in an interview, when asked for his insight on how will the Yolanda survivors celebrate this yuletide season.

“Everywhere we go, even if there’s a big disaster, Filipinos will tell you  may awa ang Diyos, makakaraos rin tayo [God has mercy on us and we will keep on moving]“.

Gariguez added if there is one very festive atmosphere in the whole country, it is Christmas. It is a reminder that God cares for His people.

“It is the message of faith. God is with us even in the midst of destruction and calamities,” he said.

Gariguez furthered that even the stars in the sky and christmas trees are part of the strong spirit and faith of the Filipinos.

“The Filipino spirit and our faith keep us moving. We stand together as one family regardless of religion,” he said.

Meanwhile, the CBCP Media Office has recently launched a website www.cbcpnews/yolanda that will provide news and updates straight from the ground from local journalists who are also victims of Yolanda.
Tagged as “Yolanda, Stories from Ground Zero”, the project is in collaboration with the Peace and Conflict Journalism Network, Inc (PECOJON) and CBCP-NASSA. (Yen Ocampo)
