19

Then his mother and his brothers ⁶ came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd.

20

He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you."

21

He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it." ⁷

⁷ While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is my body."

Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it.

He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed ⁸ for many.

25

Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."

26

Then, after singing a hymn, ⁹ they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Then his disciples asked him what the meaning of this parable might be.

He answered, "Knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of God has been granted to you; but to the rest, they are made known through parables so that 'they may look but not see, and hear but not understand.'
