FREEDOM AND PEACE
Chapter 14
- 26
- 9 So what is to be done, brothers? When you assemble, one has a psalm, another an instruction, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Everything should be done for building up.
- 27
- If anyone speaks in a tongue, let it be two or at most three, and each in turn, and one should interpret.
- 28
- But if there is no interpreter, the person should keep silent in the church and speak to himself and to God.
- 29
- Two or three prophets should speak, and the others discern.
- 30
- But if a revelation is given to another person sitting there, the first one should be silent.
- 31
- For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged.
- 32
- Indeed, the spirits of prophets are under the prophets' control,
- 33
- since he is not the God of disorder but of peace. As in all the churches of the holy ones, 10
- 34
- women should keep silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says.
- 35
- But if they want to learn anything, they should ask their husbands at home. For it is improper for a woman to speak in the church.
- 36
- Did the word of God go forth from you? Or has it come to you alone?
- 37
- If anyone thinks that he is a prophet or a spiritual person, he should recognize that what I am writing to you is a commandment of the Lord.
- 38
- If anyone does not acknowledge this, he is not acknowledged.
- 39
- So, (my) brothers, strive eagerly to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues,
- 40
- but everything must be done properly and in order.
Chapter 3
- 8
- 3 Finally, all of you, be of one mind, sympathetic, loving toward one another, compassionate, humble.
- 9
- Do not return evil for evil, or insult for insult; but, on the contrary, a blessing, because to this you were called, that you might inherit a blessing.
- 10
- For: "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep the tongue from evil and the lips from speaking deceit,
- 11
- must turn from evil and do good, seek peace and follow after it.
- 12
- For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears turned to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against evildoers."
Chapter 11
THE WITHERED FIG TREE
- 20
- Early in the morning, as they were walking along, they saw the fig tree withered to its roots.
- 21
- Peter remembered and said to him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered."
- 22
- Jesus said to them in reply, "Have faith in God.
- 23
- Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him.
- 24
- Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours.
- 25
- When you stand to pray, forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance, so that your heavenly Father may in turn forgive you your transgressions."
Chapter 8
DESTINY OF GLORY
- 18
- 4 I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us.
- 19
- For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God;
- 20
- for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope
- 21
- that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God.
- 22
- We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now;
- 23
- and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
- 24
- For in hope we were saved. Now hope that sees for itself is not hope. For who hopes for what one sees?
- 25
- But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance.
- 26
- In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings.
- 27
- And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God's will.
- 28
- 5 We know that all things work for good for those who love God, 6 who are called according to his purpose.
- 29
- 7 For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
- 30
- And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also glorified.
Chapter 11
GODS IRREVOCABLE CALL
- 25
- 4 I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers, so that you will not become wise (in) your own estimation: a hardening has come upon Israel in part, until the full number of the Gentiles comes in,
- 26
- and thus all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The deliverer will come out of Zion, he will turn away godlessness from Jacob;
- 27
- and this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins."
- 28
- In respect to the gospel, they are enemies on your account; but in respect to election, they are beloved because of the patriarchs.
- 29
- For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.
- 30
- 5 Just as you once disobeyed God but have now received mercy because of their disobedience,
- 31
- so they have now disobeyed in order that, by virtue of the mercy shown to you, they too may (now) receive mercy.
- 32
- For God delivered all to disobedience, that he might have mercy upon all.
Chapter 2
CHRISTIAN EXAMPLES / GOVERNMENT
- 11
- 6 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and sojourners 7 to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against the soul.
- 12
- Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that if they speak of you as evildoers, they may observe your good works and glorify God on the day of visitation.
- 13
- 8 Be subject to every human institution for the Lord's sake, whether it be to the king as supreme
- 14
- or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the approval of those who do good.
- 15
- For it is the will of God that by doing good you may silence the ignorance of foolish people.
- 16
- Be free, yet without using freedom as a pretext for evil, but as slaves of God.
- 17
- Give honor to all, love the community, fear God, honor the king.
Chapter 2
CHRISTIANS SLAVES
- 18
- 9 Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse.
- 19
- For whenever anyone bears the pain of unjust suffering because of consciousness of God, that is a grace.
- 20
- But what credit is there if you are patient when beaten for doing wrong? But if you are patient when you suffer for doing what is good, this is a grace before God.
- 21
- For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered 10 for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his footsteps.
- 22
- "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." 11
- 23
- When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten; instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly.
- 24
- He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
- 25
- For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls. 12
Chapter 8
- 26
- Then they sailed to the territory of the Gerasenes, 9 which is opposite Galilee.
- 27
- When he came ashore a man from the town who was possessed by demons met him. For a long time he had not worn clothes; he did not live in a house, but lived among the tombs.
- 28
- When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him; in a loud voice he shouted, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!"
- 29
- For he had ordered the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (It had taken hold of him many times, and he used to be bound with chains and shackles as a restraint, but he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into deserted places.)
- 30
- Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" 10 He replied, "Legion," because many demons had entered him.
- 31
- And they pleaded with him not to order them to depart to the abyss. 11
- 32
- A herd of many swine was feeding there on the hillside, and they pleaded with him to allow them to enter those swine; and he let them.
- 33
- The demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.
- 34
- When the swineherds saw what had happened, they ran away and reported the incident in the town and throughout the countryside.
- 35
- People came out to see what had happened and, when they approached Jesus, they discovered the man from whom the demons had come out sitting at his feet. 12 He was clothed and in his right mind, and they were seized with fear.
- 36
- Those who witnessed it told them how the possessed man had been saved.
- 37
- The entire population of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them because they were seized with great fear. So he got into a boat and returned.
- 38
- The man from whom the demons had come out begged to remain with him, but he sent him away, saying,
- 39
- "Return home and recount what God has done for you." The man went off and proclaimed throughout the whole town what Jesus had done for him.

EFESO 4:17-18 5:15-17 HEBREWS 4"7
