Little Saints Parade brings ‘saintly’ Halloween back
VALENZUELA
City, Oct. 30, 2015 – In the observance of All Saints’ Day, the
National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima Parish held its 2nd Little Saints
Parade on Thursday, Oct. 29, bringing back remembrance of the holy ones
on the eve of the feast.
“According
to the liturgical calendar, Nov. 1 marks the Feast of All Saints and
the Roman Catholic Church commemorates this by having different
activities. And in our parish, we opted to bring the saints to life by
coming up with this annual ‘Little Saints Parade’,” Commission on Social
Communications Chairperson and overall coordinator of the said parade,
Christina Cruz Luna.
Thirty-four
children from different organizations, commissions, and communities of
the parish dressed up like their favorite saints and paraded around the
vicinity of the Shrine with Saints Maximilian Maria Kolbe and Hedwig of
Silesia awarded as the best dressed saints.
The 34 participants received loot bags and certificates while all the other children got some treats, too.
“The
activity will continue to be an annual practice in the Shrine to
counter wrong beliefs during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All
Souls’ Day as many groups and communities are into Halloween parties and
dressing-up as monsters and evil creatures,” explained, parish priest
and rector Msgr. Bartolome G. Santos, Jr. (Myraine Carluen Policarpo / CBCP News)
