MANILA— Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila is inviting Catholics
to take to the streets again and join the campaign against the
drug-related killings and the death penalty this Lenten season.
The “Penitential Walk for Life” aims to pray that life’s sanctity be recognized while reflecting on Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection on Good Friday, April 14, from 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
“Let us join Jesus who walked with us humbly, justly and lovingly,” said the prelate.
The cardinal also asked those joining the walk to bring a transistor radio so they could follow the meditations over Church-run Radio Veritas.
“In this way, we could continue walking yet remain connected in prayer and reflection,” he said.
Organized by the Council of the Laity of the Philippines, the walk, which will pass through Roxas Boulevard, will start at the Baclaran Church in Pasay City and will end at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila.
“During the penitential walk, we will be having the Way of the Cross and the saying of the Rosary as we reflect on the different concerns that threaten the sanctity of life,” said CLP president Zenaida Capistrano.
Capistrano also encouraged all lay organizations to “actively participate” in the event.
“Let us all as one people of God, walk with Christ humbly as we exhort life,” she added.
