Priest to PNoy: Quit SONA, get ‘on the ground’

MANILA, July 25, 2014—Convinced it will be nothing but a
grandstanding drama, a church leader challenged President Benigno S.
Aquino III (PNoy) to forego the State of the Nation Address (SONA) and
to consider getting “on the ground” to know what real life is like for
ordinary Filipinos.
“I join those urging for the SONA boycott, because I am certain it
will only be about the President having us believe that he had done us
so many favors when what we actually experience ‘on the ground’ is far
beyond his wildest dreams,” said Fr. Marlon Lacal, executive secretary
of the Association of Major Religious Superior of the Philippines
(AMRSP) in Filipino in a Radyo Veritas report.
Lacal said he does not want to waste his time listening to “beautiful
words and new promises” like for example, the FOI [Freedom of
Information] Bill which seems to be all but forgotten.

Lacal challenged Aquino to get “on the ground” and see for himself
firsthand the real situation of his countrymen instead of boring them
with empty rhetoric.
“He should be the one taking time to listen to the people’s cries and
grievances, rather than us listening to his SONA of lies,” the priest
shared.
According to Lacal, PNoy should focus on penalizing individuals involved in corruption.
