Seconding the appeal of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the
Philippines (CBCP) president Archbishop Socrates Villegas of
Lingayen-Dagupan, Lagdameo also asked the faithful to “listen and follow
the instructions given by the CBCP regarding typhoon ‘Ruby’
(‘Hagupit’), first, to pray and, second, to open the doors of the
churches and schools to refugees and to those badly in need of shelter.”
The island of Panay, where the province of Iloilo is located, is included in the “cone of danger” or the probable path where the super typhoon could pass. Pre-emptive evacuation has already been implemented in some Iloilo towns, particularly in those areas badly hit by super-typhoon Yolanda in November 2013.
The Archbishop ended his message with an assurance to his people, “God will hear our prayers.”
In a related development, the Vicariate of St. Peter Youth Ministries of the Archdiocese of Jaro has announced that the musical concert, entitled “Mercy”, a free recollection in the form of a prayer-concert originally set on Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m. at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral, was postponed to Dec. 13, Saturday, 6:30 pm, at the same venue.
According to youth shepherd Russel Palmares, “We have made this decision after much prayer and discernment. As much as that everyone in excited for the event, we would like to be one with our country in prayer for the safety of our people.”
The youth leader encouraged everyone to be united in prayer by lighting a “perdon” candle, a long-revered tradition of the faithful in the Archdiocese of Jaro to beseech the maternal protection of Holy Mary, Our Lady of Candles. (Fr. Mickey Cardenas/CBCPNews)
