The annual “March for Mary and the Filipino Family” is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8 and the faithful are invited to participate.

Organized by Pro-Life Philippines, the event is endorsed by the bishops’ Episcopal Commission on Family and Life (ECFL).

“It is my prayer that the March for Mary and the Filipino family be a strong message that life and family are sacred and worth protecting for,” said Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, ECFL chairman.
He cited that their support is in accordance with the previous pastoral exhortation of the CBCP citing the importance of actions in having a harmonious community.

“An open, honest, respectful, loving dialogue of life, prayer, and action is the only way towards harmony in the community,” he said.

The march is slated to start at the Malate Church at 6am and will proceed to the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros.

Upon arrival, it will be followed by a Mass at 8:30am to be presided over by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.

“The March is intended to celebrate the life of Mama Mary as an inspiration to the life of the Filipino family,” said Pro-Life President Rita Dayrit in a statement.

“It is likewise an expression of our collective desire to honor the sanctity of the family as it faces political, economic, cultural, and moral challenges,” she added.

The organization also hopes to promote the “March for Mary and the Filipino Family” as an annual activity across the county during the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

“We are hoping that it will catch fire later on and replicated in all dioceses in the country,” said Dayrit.

Back in 2017, President Duterte declared Dec. 8 as a nationwide holiday to commemorate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

In August this year, he also signed a law declaring September 8 a special working holiday in the country to celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
