Bacolod to hold simultaneous prayer vigils for RH Law

BACOLOD CITY, April 4, 2014 — The Bishop of Bacolod, the Most Rev. Vicente M. Navarra, DD, calls the faithful in all the diocese’s churches to hold simultaneous prayer vigils on April 7 for the intention of the Supreme Court Justices’ final decision on the constitutionality of the RH Law.

“The Diocese of Bacolod has been consistent in its defense of the sanctity of human life in the face of the evil of Reproductive Health policy that some of our government leaders have been staunchly advocating”, the Bacolod Prelate said in a circular letter.

In the same letter, Bishop Navarra instructed all parish priests and chaplains of the Diocese of Bacolod to have the said vigil in the evening of April 7 in their respective churches and chapels as the Supreme Court Justices are expected to have their final deliberations the following day on the constitutionality of Republic Act Number 10354, an Act Providing for a National Policy on Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health, popular known as the RH Law.

The Diocese of Bacolod hit the headlines when several churches decided to put up Team Patay/Team Buhay banners in preparation for the 2013 elections. (CBCP News file photo)
Bishop Navarra also ordered that at noontime of April 7 and April 8, 2014 all the churches ring their bells as the faithful pray for the intercession of the Blessed Mother that the Supreme Court Justices will be enlightened on the pending issues.

The San Sebastian Cathedral Parish, according to its rector, Fr. Felix Pasquin, will hold its prayer vigil on April 7 at 7 p.m. at the San Sebastian Cathedral court yard.

Furthermore, the cathedral rector said the church will peal bells every hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 8 as the Prayers to the Divine Mercy and the Oratio Imperata against the RH Law are recited.

During the prayer vigil, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed with the faithful praying the holy rosary.
While admitting that effort to repeal the RH Law is an uphill battle, Navarra said in the same circular that “the faithful should be mindful of the fact that “we must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29), we shall carry on this mission, consoled with the knowledge that we are doing what Christ would have done in obedience to His Father’s will”. Saturday Peñafrancia procession and healing services

The Saturday Peñafrancia procession and healing services continue to draw devotees. Began two years ago, the devotion is usually held after the anticipated mass at the Our Lady of Peñafrancia Basilica in Naga City with a solemn procession around the basilica grounds. This is followed by a healing service through the imposition of the manto, the clothing of Ina. Last Saturday, March 29, two buses of pilgrims from Laguna joined the said spiritual activity.
