Tagle wants even non-Christians to study new encyclical
MANILA, June 19, 2015 –- In a tone of inclusiveness reflective of Pope Francis’ papacy, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle rallied all, Christians and non-Christians alike to read and think about Pope Francis newest encylical “Laudato Si, mi Signore (Praise be to you, my Lord)”, on the environment.“We call on non-Christians, families, educators, politicians, business people, experts in science and digital technology, media, consumer groups, non-government and peoples´ organizations to study the encyclical and its proposals,” said the prelate in a statement released on June 18 after the Holy Father read the papal document to the public for the first time, from Rome.
Tagle also called on the faithful, the religious, and the clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila “to study, enrich, discuss and meditate on the various points of the encyclical.”

In the said message, the newly-elected president of Caritas International also outlined the salient points of the Pontiff’s letter to the faithful as follows:
- a restoration of a contemplative view of creation;
- the importance of the belief in the Creator;
- the rediscovery of the role of human beings as stewards and not as pseudo-owners of the earth;
- the plan of God that the goods of the earth be shared by all;
- the vital connection between the environment and human life and;
- a courageous review of political and economic policies, business practices, mindsets and lifestyles towards the changes needed to care for our common home, to uplift the poor and to give glory and praise to the Creator
