Hebrews
Chapter 1:1-4
God speak thru his son Jesus Christ
1In times past, God spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the prophets;
2in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe,
3who is the refulgence of his glory,
the very imprint of his being,
and who sustains all things by his mighty word.
When he had accomplished purification from sins,
he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
4as far superior to the angels
as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
12Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you.
13But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.
14If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
15But let no one among you be made to suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as an intriguer.
16But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed but glorify God because of the name.
17For it is time for the judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, how will it end for those who fail to obey the gospel of God
18“And if the righteous one is barely saved,
where will the godless and the sinner appear?”
19As a result, those who suffer in accord with God’s will hand their souls over to a faithful creator as they do good.
Acts
Chapter 1:14
13When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.
14All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
Acts
Chapter 2:14-41
Peter’s Speech at Pentecost
17‘It will come to pass in the last days,’ God says,
‘that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
your old men shall dream dreams.
18Indeed, upon my servants and my handmaids
I will pour out a portion of my spirit in those days,
and they shall prophesy.
19And I will work wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below:
blood, fire, and a cloud of smoke.
20The sun shall be turned to darkness,
and the moon to blood,
before the coming of the great and splendid day of the Lord,
21and it shall be that everyone shall be saved who calls on
the name of the Lord.’
22You who are Israelites, hear these words. Jesus the Nazorean was a man commended to you by God with mighty deeds, wonders, and signs, which God worked through him in your midst, as you yourselves know.
23This man, delivered up by the set plan and foreknowledge of God, you killed, using lawless men to crucify him.
24But God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death, because it was impossible for him to be held by it.
25For David says of him:
‘I saw the Lord ever before me,
with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
26Therefore my heart has been glad and my tongue has exulted;
my flesh, too, will dwell in hope,
27because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld,
nor will you suffer your holy one to see corruption.
28You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.
29My brothers, one can confidently say to you about the patriarch David that he died and was buried, and his tomb is in our midst to this day.
30But since he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne,
31he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that neither was he abandoned to the netherworld nor did his flesh see corruption.
32God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses.
33Exalted at the right hand of God, he received the promise of the holy Spirit from the Father and poured it forth, as you (both) see and hear.
34For David did not go up into heaven, but he himself said:
‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand
35until I make your enemies your footstool.”’
36Therefore let the whole house of Israel know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
37Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and they asked Peter and the other apostles, “What are we to do, my brothers?”
38Peter [said] to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit.
39For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call.”
40He testified with many other arguments, and was exhorting them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand persons were added that day.x
Luke
42 At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
43But he said to them, “To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent.
44And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
16 The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
17 When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
18 Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.* And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
2in these last days, he spoke to us through a son, whom he made heir of all things and through whom he created the universe,
3who is the refulgence of his glory,
the very imprint of his being,
and who sustains all things by his mighty word.

Chapter 1:18
Chapter 1:18
The Word was Life
1In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things came to be through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
What came to be
4through him was life,
and this life was the light of the human race;
5 the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 A man named John was sent from God.
7He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.
8He was not the light, but came to testify to the light.
9The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
10He was in the world,
and the world came to be through him,
but the world did not know him.
11He came to what was his own,
but his own people did not accept him.
12 But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name,
13 who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision but of God.
14And the Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only Son,
full of grace and truth.
15 John testified to him and cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’”
16From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace,
17because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father’s side, has revealed him.
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.

Christian Slaves
18
Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to
those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse.
19For whenever anyone bears the pain of unjust suffering because of consciousness of God, that is a grace.
20But what credit is there if you are patient when beaten for doing wrong? But if you are patient when you suffer for doing what is good, this is a grace before God.
21For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his footsteps.
22“He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
23When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten; instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly.
24He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
25For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.

The Prayer of Jesus
Chapter 17:1-26
The Prayer of Jesus
1When
Jesus had said this, he raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father,
the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify
you,
2 just as you gave him authority over all people, so that he may give eternal life to all you gave him.
3 Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
4I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do.
5Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.
6“I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
7Now they know that everything you gave me is from you,
8because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.
9I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me, because they are yours,
10and everything of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been glorified in them.
11And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, while I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are.
12When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13But now I am coming to you. I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely.
14I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.
15 I do not ask that you take them out of the worldj but that you keep them from the evil one.
16They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.
17Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.
18As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.
19And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth.
20“I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
21so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.
22And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one,
23I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me.
24Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me.
26I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”
