John
Chapter 10
The Good Shepherd

1 “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever does not enter a sheepfold through the gate but climbs over elsewhere is a thief and a robber.

2But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.

3The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

4 When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice.

5But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers.”

6Although Jesus used this figure of speech,* they did not realize what he was trying to tell them.

7 So Jesus said again, “Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the gate for the sheep.

8 All who came [before me] are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.

9I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.

10A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.

11I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

12A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them.

13This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep.

14I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me,

15just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.

16I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.

17This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.

18No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again. This command I have received from my Father.”

19Again there was a division among the Jews because of these words.

20Many of them said, “He is possessed and out of his mind; why listen to him?”

21Others said, “These are not the words of one possessed; surely a demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?”

John

Chapter 3
Nicodemus

1 Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

2He came to Jesus at night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one can do these signs that you are doing unless God is with him.”

3Jesus answered and said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.”

4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a person once grown old be born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother’s womb and be born again, can he?”

5Jesus answered, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.

6What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is spirit.

7Do not be amazed that I told you, ‘You must be born from above.’

8The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

9Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How can this happen?”

10Jesus answered and said to him, “You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this?

11Amen, amen, I say to you, we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony.

12If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?

13No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.

14And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

15 so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”

16For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.

17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.

18Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

19 And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.

20For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.

21But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

John
Chapter 6
The Bread of Life Discourse

22* The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat, but only his disciples had left.

23 Other boats came from Tiberias near the place where they had eaten the bread when the Lord gave thanks.

24When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.

25And when they found him across the sea they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”

26Jesus answered them and said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.

27Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”

28So they said to him, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”

29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”

30So they said to him, “What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do?

31 Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written:
‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

32So Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

33For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

34 So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”

35* Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.

36But I told you that although you have seen [me], you do not believe.

37Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,

38because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.

39And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it [on] the last day.

40For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him [on] the last day.”

41The Jews murmured about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven,”

42and they said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”

43Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop murmuring among yourselves.

44No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day.

45It is written in the prophets:
‘They shall all be taught by God.’
Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.

46Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father.

47Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.

48I am the bread of life.

49Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;

50this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.

51I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

52The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?”

53Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.

54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.

55For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

57Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.

58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

59These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

John
Chapter 15
The Vine and the Branches

1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.

2He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

3You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.

4Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.

5I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.

6 Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned.

7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.

8By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.
9As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love.

10If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.

11“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
12This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.

13 No one has greater love than this,j to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

14You are my friends if you do what I command you.

15I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.

16It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
17This I command you: love one another.

1 Peter
Chapter 2
Christian Slaves

18 Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse.

19For whenever anyone bears the pain of unjust suffering because of consciousness of God, that is a grace.

20But what credit is there if you are patient when beaten for doing wrong? But if you are patient when you suffer for doing what is good, this is a grace before God.

21For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his footsteps.

22“He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.”

23When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten; instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly.

24He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

25For you had gone astray like sheep, but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.

1 John
Chapter 2
Christ and His Commandments

1My children, I am writing this to you so that you may not commit sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one.

2He is expiation for our sins, and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world.
3The way we may be sure that we know him is to keep his commandments.

4Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5But whoever keeps his word, the love of God is truly perfected in him. This is the way we may know that we are in union with him:

6whoever claims to abide in him ought to live [just] as he lived.

Psalms
Chapter 53
A Lament over Widespread Corruptions

1For the leader; according to Mahalath. A maskil of David.

I

2The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They act corruptly and practice injustice;
there is none that does good.

3God looks out from the heavens
upon the children of Adam,
To see if there is a discerning person
who is seeking God.

4All have gone astray;
each one is altogether perverse.
There is not one who does what is good, not even one.

II

5fDo they not know better, those who do evil,
who feed upon my people as they feed upon bread?
Have they not called upon God?

6They are going to fear his name with great fear,
though they had not feared it before.
For God will scatter the bones
of those encamped against you.
They will surely be put to shame,
for God has rejected them.

EFESO 4:17-18  5:15-17 HEBREWS 4"7
