PPCRV to deploy 300,000 volunteers for May 13 polls

A Catholic Church-backed poll watchdog said they are ready for Monday’s polls and for the conduct of a partial and unofficial quick count of election results.
The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) opened its command center at the Pope Pius XII Center in Manila on Wednesday, signalling its readiness for the polls.

The PPCRV said it will deploy about 300,000 volunteers in voting precincts nationwide to help monitor the midterm elections.

“It’s quiet a large number and it’s not enough the spirit is very strong,” said PPCRV national chairperson Myla Villanueva.

“I have been talking to coordinators all over the country and aside from voters’ education, they have been organizing themselves to cover as many precincts as possible,” she said.

At the command center, there are 100 units of computers where volunteers could encode the votes of candidates.

The PPCRV said it be would be needing 300 volunteers daily to encode the election returns from the polling precincts, that would be compared against the ERs electronically transmitted from the transparency server.

In case of power interruption, the PPCRV assured that they have standby power generators to ensure the uninterrupted operation.
