Military chaplains lead interfaith prayer vs coronavirus

Religious leaders have come together on Wednesday to pray for deliverance from the coronavirus pandemic. 

The country’s military chaplains led the televised interfaith prayer service from Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

This was supported by Catholic parish churches across the country that simultaneously rang their bells at 3pm, signalling the start of the prayer.

The prayer service started with a Catholic priest and an Imam placing a Bible and a Quoran at a front table. 

An Protestant pastor and an Aglipayan priest were also among those who led the interfaith service. 

Together, they prayed for the safety of all the frontliners in the fight against Covid-19 and for the healing of those who are infected with the virus. 

They also prayed for the protection of the all the “silent workers” who are attending to the basic needs of the people. 

Wednesday’s activity was organized by the government’s Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID).

“It will be comforting and encouraging for our people when they sense and observe that a spirit of unity and working together is there in these trying times,” said Archbishop Romulo Valles, president of the bishops’ conference. 

The Philippines on April 8 recorded 3,870 cases, including 182 deaths and 96 recoveries.
The Covid-19 death toll worldwide has surpassed 82,000, while more than 1.4 million have been infected in over 190 countries and territories.
